About Us

Jake Petrasch, Founder and President

I grew up fishing in Nantucket, Ma. for blues, stripers, bonito, and false albacore.  I fine tuned my trout stalking skills in the Adirondacks while moonlighting as a St. Lawrence University undergraduate.  I have lived and guided in the Mad River Valley of Vermont since 2002.  My wife and dogs (and recently my daughter) have accompanied me on the majority of my trout fishing ventures, often out fishing me.  I have spent time chasing fish in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Florida, Belize and Vieques (Puerto Rico).

About Valley Anglers

Valley Anglers is fully insured both on the water and en-route, Jake is WFR (Wilderness First Responder), works with MRVAS (local ambulance/rescue volunteer squad) performing car extrications around the MRV and is certified in Professional Healthcare Provider CPR.  When it's not trout season here in Vermont, Jake has worked as a Special Education Teacher at the local high school but will be starting work at a Wilderness Therapy Program, working with youth-at-risk as their Field Manager.

Jake has his undergraduate degree in Art History from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY and his Masters in Education from Johnson State College in Johnson, VT.  He has completed two Outward Bound sailing courses during his summers in high school, a NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) semester in the Rockies, is also an avid ice climber, telemark skiier, rock climber, husband, father and sole proprietor of Valley Anglers LLC.

About the Mad River Valley

The Mad River Valley is home to a diverse population of brook, brown and rainbow trout both from stocking efforts and native fish populations.  All the streams and creeks in the Mad River Valley are stunningly clear.  Good visibility for both us and the fish!  Many of the tributaries of the Mad River provide excellent cover for hearty native fish, while the best spots are revealed on trips.  I also fish a section of the Winooski river in Bolton/Duxbury for a larger river fishing experience.
